When I say Civil War, I’m obviously talking about the new movie coming out and not the comic. Chris Evans has said in past interviews that he doesn’t want to play Captain America anymore, so with the next Captain America loosely following Civil War he may get his wish. In the Civil War story Captain America is shot and killed and Bucky takes up the shield to become the new Captain America. In the movie, Captain America 3: Civil War, there are openings for this to happen. To add more fuel to this speculation fire, I turn to the Sal Lake City Comic con. According to the Salt Lake City Tribue Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky, was asked about who would take up the shield next.
Myself…I’ll say this: They sure like to dangle a cheese in front of my nose a lot. They’re like ‘Oh yeah, that’s where you pick up the shield,’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’ve heard that one before. There it is again.’ But I don’t know. If I could say one thing, if anyone can have anything to do with it, to make it happen, is you.
There would be no real reason why they would be leading an actor on, but if the studio has a sudden change of heart then they could easily put all this talk to the wayside. Personally, from seeing him hold the shield in Captain America 2, I think Bucky would look awesome holding the shield with a modified Captain America suit. You have to make sure to show the robotic arm and his Bane-esque mask, so maybe just the pants and shirt could be the Captain America style costume and the rest be all Bucky.
