Each Wednesday I take a look back at an old game, play through it and write my thoughts after. Usually the play through goes until I have used all of my lives, and being rusty at these old games isn’t helping. I don’t discriminate and play games from all old systems and even some arcade games, so let’s take a look at what I’m playing this week.

With all the news about the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game coming out, I decided to play one of the old arcade games. Sadly I don’t have three other friends to join me so I had to pop in all of my credits and play solo. Luckily I was able to make it through the whole game.

When I used to play this in the arcades I would die after the first or second levels, because game cabinets are nothing but money eaters. All the games are meant to be just easy enough to make you keep going, but hard enough to make you forget how much money you’ve popped in to keep going through this seemingly easy game. I haven’t watched a TMNT cartoon in a long time, so all the bosses were familiar but their names were never given. The story was rushed but I’m sure it was because this was an arcade game, and each level was about as long as the normal arcade games lasting about 10 minutes. Each player had a power bar showing how much damage they had left, but the bosses didn’t so you had to rely on them starting to blink red. Blinking red bosses are alright, but sometimes the bosses blocked attacks so I couldn’t tell if I was hitting them or not. A few of them succumbed to being trapped in the corner, followed by a jump kick and barrage of hits.

The video I recorded has all the levels except one, which was messed up so I decided to delete it from the video all together. The game does have replay ability if you play solo and then with friends. I beat the game in just under an hour, so with 4 people I’m sure the game could be beat in 30-45 minutes. When it comes to money spent on the game, if it was a quarter per life and I used 30 lives then I spent around $7.50 on the game in total, which is not bad for an hour game.
