In today’s edition of Way Back Wednesday, I take a stroll down the futuristic road with the Super Nintendo game F-Zero. F-Zero was like Mario Kart, except with no weapons and better music. Even though you never see the drivers themselves, one mister Captain Falcon is piloting one of the cars. After his racing career Captain Falcon joined a fighting tournament where he was given guns and small Pokemon as aid as he beat up a small pink balloon creature.
All kidding aside, this game is difficult even if you put race on the easiest course as a beginner. You are given a power meter and the ability to gain a boost per lap once you completed the initial lap. The sides of the track have sensors that will harm you and sharp turns that make you use the right and left bumper while letting off the gas. There are other racers besides those who you are racing against and they have no problem getting in your way. The race limits the number of people that can advance, so if you fall behind you won’t come in last you’ll lose the game. If you do enjoy bumping the sides and losing power, don’t worry because each stage has a strip that powers you up when you drive over it. The only thing that really gets you, besides the other drivers, are the sections of the ground that aren’t smooth. Instead of slowing you down, they bring you to pretty much a complete halt. There are many times I was doing well and one wrong move later, I was 2 positions behind.
Like all of my Way Back Wednesday games,I give myself one life to see how far I can go. After that one life is over, I turn the game off and throw the footage up on our Youtube page. Allow me to embarrass myself and show you just how far I was able to go.
