Back in the mid 90’s when cable was the big thing and everyone watched HBO on Friday nights for new movies, they commericials leading up to the movie always included Mr. Show with Bob and David. I had cable in my room, but I also had a bed time and with no DVR I could never catch episodes until they happen to replay on a Friday or Saturday night. I didn’t know much about sketch comedy outside of Saturday Night Live at the time, but what I saw I recognized as being funny. Being the dopey kid I was a lot of the jokes went over my head, but I still understood a few.

The show ran for 3 years and had a huge staff of nothing but talent that you would know from current projects. Here are some names that may sound familiar

  • David Cross
  • Bob Odenkirk
  • Tom Kenny
  • Jill Talley
  • Jay Johnston
  • Dino Stamatopoulos
  • Paul F. Tompkins
  • Brian Posehn
  • Scott Aukerman

Even though the show ended in 1998 there is still talk to this day of episodes that were groundbreaking and comedy that was unlike any other being done at the time.

Paul F. Tompkins tweeted out that something new was coming from the Mr. Show cast this year, and then news broke that the new show would be called W/Bob & David. Obviously HBO still owns the name so they had to change it to keep it all legal. Yesterday a teaser was released making everything official

The new show will hit Netflix on November 13
