I was born in the early 80’s, but I really didn’t hit an age where I was conscious of items people collected, television shows or movies. My sister is 7 years older and she wasn’t into the things I was into, but my friend growing up had an older brother who introduced us to thing hot items of that time. One item that was shown to us were Garbage Pail Kids cards, which were card that depicted young kids with outrageous names that fit their specific skill. There was no real story to who these kids were, but for the most part their job was to make people laugh or gross them out. Shortly after I was introduced to the Garbage Pail Kids the movie came out, and looking back now I don’t remember them being this freaky looking
I don’t remember if it was my sister or my mom who took me to see this, but oh ma this looks horrible. The only person I remember from the movie was Valerie Vomit who was renamed Barfin Barbara for some reason
Just like with my comic book cards, the Garbage Pail kids cards were collected and traded. After a while their interest went away and they faded into the darkness with the other items from my childhood. You’ll see cards pop up here and there and conventions, but now they’re going to be at conventions due to being an actual comic.
CBR posted some pages to an upcoming Garbage Pail Kids comic called Garbage Pail Kids Go Hollywood, but they’ve already gone Hollywood so that’s a little confusing. I’m a huge fan of comics, but my biggest gripe is always the art style. If the style doesn’t look great then it doesn’t matter what the story is, I won’t be reading it. There will be variant covers that show some classic and new Garbage Pail Kids characters, and it will be released this Wednesday August 12th for $3.99.
