JanusVR is the new way you’re going to experience the internet and all that it has to offer. Not only do you use the Oculus headset, but your choice of controls are a keyboard, Xbox control or your hand. This was the first time that I had used my hand as a control outside from my Kinect at home.
When I first started the demo I was in a concert with a crowd watching ZZ Top perform and there were other avatars next to me also watching the concert. With JanusVR you can actually meet up with your friends and use your control to walk around but use your hand to who gestures. So if the concert was more of a metal concert then you damn well know I’d be throwing up the horns and hanging my head. I was then ventured throughout the internet and viewed web pages through virtual reality. I ended up on Reddit and was able to walk around a custom built Reddit room with doors on the walls leading to the top stories. Of course being the guy that I am, I stumbled into a comment thread and walked around reading the usual Reddit comments. I asked about gaming and was taken to a game room with a custom built first person Frogger game. I played as the frog and I had to look both ways before crossing and use the Xbox control to jump. It was a very different experience than doing a top down view. Rene tried it next and he did a little better than me, but after dying he ventured more through the internet and ended up in a mall.
Using JanusVR very well may be the newest way to shop in a mall or a store. You simply walk around to a store, go inside, find what you want and put it in your basket. This would still give you the feeling of walking around a mall without even leaving your house. The best part about that is being able to customize your mall or having one customized for you. No need to walk past all those stores you never go into, why not have one catered to you.
