This past weekend I had the pleasure of doing an interview with Lonnie Millsap. Lonnie and I had spoken at previous conventions, but only briefly because there was a crowd around his booth. I had seen a few of his pictures that he was selling hanging up and they immediately caught my eye. Being a fan of books like The Far Side growing up, I appreciated a great single page picture with a funny line. It’s a skill to be able to draw a single picture and have a sinlge line of text that is so powerful the reader laughs out loud.
I spoke to Lonnie before I interviewed him and he said that he didn’t know just how popular his books were, which is funny because right as I walked up a woman turned to me and told me that he had some of the funniest stuff she had ever seen. To even further drive home the point that he’s a great joke writer, my brother in law told me about him and asked me if I had seen his booth. He said that as soon as he saw the hanging pictures on the wall he knew that he had to have some of his books. On the last day of the Long Beach Comic Con, my fiancee bought two books and my brother in law bought his newest book. He had made such an impact with just a few pieces of art that they made it a point to stop by and pick up some books as part of their Comic Con agenda. That right there is proof enough that Lonnie Millsap is something special. No matter what you’re into, he has at least two pages dedicated to it. Check out the interview I did with him, but only after you check out his social media presence to see new pages a few times a week.
