Iadmit I’m an Xbox fanboy but I’ll also admit when Xbox lets me down, this could be with system changes, games or console performance. Yesterday’s Xbox Gamescom Media Briefing was promised to be all about games, and it was, but it was a bit of a let down for me. There were a lot of games shown, but personally not many really got me excited.

The choice to have a Major League Gaming championship match with Halo 5 was bold, but you have to understand that there were a lot of viewers that could easily head over to Twitch and see that anytime they wanted. That was really my only gripe with the media briefing the rest was just me not interested in some of the announcements, but let’s take a look at what I did enjoy.

Quantum Break

This game was shown a while ago at E3 and after that nothing more was shown. This third person time shifting shooter really show what the Xbox One can do. The slow motion moves look so fun, it reminds me of Quiksilver from X-Men:Days of Future Past and speaking of X-Men Shawn Ashmore, who plays Iceman, will be the voice of the main character.

Scalebound

My love of Dragons and Final Fantasy looking games come together in one glorious bundle. The fact that you’re rocking some fantasy style Beats by Dre is a silly touch, but I’ll let them have it. I just hope that you don’t get stuck with the same dub step song every battle or fighting will start to be annoying.

DVR/Chat Pad/Free Games

There isn’t a video for this so I’ll make this brief. The DVR option is a great idea, but you have to have an antenna plugged into your HDMI port for this to work. If you have a coax cable antenna like me, then you’re television has to go to a different source and it doesn’t work. I also don’t believe that cables boxes will allow you to record shows because it was also announced that you can download whatever you record to any device. This means that you can record something and download it to your phone, tablet, computer or laptop and watch it without needing an internet connection.

The chat pad is something that I have really been needing, especially when I’m typing in a code from twitter or facebook and I’m not logged into Xbox.com and there is no QR code to scan. There are two free buttons that you can map commands such as record that or screen that, which I believe were their purposes anyway.

Backwards compatibility became a little more interesting as every game that is released for the Xbox 360 for Games With Gold after November will be automatically backwards compatible. This means that you will now get 4 free games a month and eventually you’ll need a new external hard drive.

Homefront: The Revolution

The original Homefront didn’t get the best reiews, but I’m willing to give this one a try. Even though there as no game play shown, the cut scenes and story elements that were provided peaked my interest

We Happy Few

This game has to be the best thing I saw from Xbox during their whole media briefing. I don’t know what it is, but the creepiness of the masks worn really makes me want to play this game. From what I get from the trailer there are people with messed up faces so they wear Guy Fawkes like masks and terrorize your character. Another shot from the trailer shows a train blowing steam in the air and the steam has been scratched out, much like the faces shown earlier. This could possibly be like Snowpiercer where a train is circling, except there is no snow and it’s just spreading chemicals. The song that plays in the background is of London Bridge and the officers look to be wearing English uniforms, so this may take place over there.
