There’s no denying that The Simpsons is one of the greatest shows every created. It’s humor and characters have been mimicked and used as the basis for numerous show. Surprisingly there has been only one movie, but 26 seasons of episodes and specials. The show started off rough then came into it’s own to have season after season of hit episodes, with memorable dialogue and stories that could be watched over and over without being over played. It was only in the past couple of years that the show has taken a dip in quality, in my opinion. The stories seem to be not as interesting and the humor just isn’t what it used to be. I’m not speaking for everyone, like I said this my opinion, but I’m surprised that the show got renewed for a 27th and 28th season.
With over 625 episodes in the can, the show has to be almost running on fumes. They’ve already said they wouldn’t be putting out anymore DVD sets, so is everything going to be digital download only? Why make more episodes if you can’t give someone a physical copy of it as a gift years after the season has passed. Shall I give someone a gift card for the exact amount of the cost of a season or will there be Simpsons cards specifically to purchase the seasons.
I say you end it at 28 seasons and put all your effort into a movie that gives the Simpsons a proper farewell. Instead of having people sit through a 22 minute episode that has maybe a good joke or two, develop that joke into a page on a script for a 90 minute movie. If the Simpsons went off the air and only did movies, I’d be completely happy with that. The movies wouldn’t even have to be about the actual Simpsons family. Give me a Moe or Willy story, maybe another road trip is taken with Bart, Nelson, Milhouse and Martin. All I’d ask is that you give significant time to Ralph Wiggum in each movie.
