Late in the evening this past Friday we were all given the chance to preview what Jared Leto will look like as the Joker in Suicide Squad movie coming out in 2016. This preview wasn’t a video clip, a picture very reminiscent of a very famous Joker pose

So that’s what our new Joker will look like. I’m all for the look and I can get past the tattoos, but the silver plated teeth have me a little turned off. I understand that there are always going to be differing versions of the same character when it comes to comic book characters. There is a slight standard that you have to follow for certain characters, but the small details can be altered to fit what you’re trying to convey. If the story fits the changes then I’m all for it, but when it comes to unnecessary alterations that don’t fit the character or their back story I have some concerns.
In regards to the Joker’s new look I can only speculate on what they’re going to do with the back story. Yes, there will have to be some kind of back story to the Joker. You can’t introduce a character so well known with changes that most people have never seen before, and expect everyone to accept with no questions. The Joker works with mob bosses and gangs, but he’s not one for being trendy or looking cool to impress others. You won’t see him tweeting or taking selfie’s for his Instagram with his new grill, but he’ll have to tell the audience how he got those teeth. In my rendition of how he got those teeth, Batman will be brought up and he’ll tell a story. The story will tell how Batman didn’t kill him, but how he punched him so hard he knocked out all of his teeth and in Arkham Asylum, these were the only things available to him. He’ll go on about how he misses his pearly white teeth, because his grin is so iconic that he is going crazier than ever. To me that sounds like a decent back story on just the teeth, I’m sure a group of highly paid writers can come up with something more decent.
Looking back at the voice that was previewed in a concert and the way he looks, I think he could have a very interesting take on a villain that is loved even though he’s pure evil. We’ll all see in the Suicide Movie in 2016.
