The ongoing statistic in the United States is that 60% of married couples end up divorcing, which makes me feel real good about getting married next year. The thing that they don’t tell you is that not only does this statistic reflect humans, but it also goes for cartoons. During an interview Variety did with Al Jean, he revealed the following about the premiere episode of season 27
In the premiere, it’s discovered after all the years Homer has narcolepsy and it’s an incredible strain on the marriage. Homer and Marge legally separate, and Homer falls in love with his pharmacist, who’s voiced by Lena Dunham.
Well if Homer and Marge can’t make it, then what chance do any of us have. Actually, this is more than likely resolved by the 22 minute mark of the episode just like with him and Mindy. If we do see that Homer has to be move out and live on his own, I hope they go back to Bachelor Arms and he gets Kirk Van Houten‘s old apartment.
The episode looks to have the makings of a funny premiere, but I’m still on the fence about the type of comedy that the writers have been coming up with. This may end up having one or two smile worthy moments, but take itself too seriously and end up being serious. I know this episode is a ways away and I’m in noway saying it’s going to be bad, but I am cautious from what I’ve been seeing the past few Sundays.
