The Indiegogo funded first person movie is coming out in April and has released a trailer. Hardcore Henry is essentially every first person video game, but put into a movie format. Don’t be mislead by my words, I really like the look of this movie and it looks to hit on all the video game beats  that we’ve all come across.

It starts off with you not knowing much about anything, you have no voice but are able to communicate with others through nods and motions. Your love interest informs you that your arm has been upgraded and right when you think everything is going ok the bad guy comes and takes her away. Now you try to fight, but since you don’t know your powers yet you lose. This is when the tutorial part of the movie starts, where you get to learn how you and your powers work. The rest of the movie is comprised of quick time events and upgrades, this is honestly the best representation of a video game in a movie. From what I can tell from the trailer you may even meet other characters that help you through the movie.

From the trailer I really like the progression of learning that the character has to do and the stunts look really cool in first person mode. The scene where there is a guy with a flame thrower reminds me of a cut scene in a game right before the actual level starts, it’s essentially setting up the battle.

The first person genre has been tried briefly with scenes like in Doom where you finally get the chainsaw and even with the move called Gamer, but I don’t believe either of them lived up to the genre of the games they were portraying. I’m looking forward to this movie, and if you’re into first person shooters I think you should be to.
